The Gosport Shed is a Registered Charity

In May 2013 the ‘Gosport Shed’ was established as a registered charity for men living in Gosport, Lee on the Solent, and the surrounding areas. Retirement, and other life events, can take away friends and sense of purpose, leaving men vulnerable to physical illness and depression. It helps to improve the wellbeing of such men by providing a new network of friends and a renewed sense of purpose. Friendship is a good reason to get up in the morning.

The Gosport Shed does fundraising activities but to maintain our service we need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our facilities!

With membership rising and the obvious need for The Gosport Shed we need to raise funds and identify projects both to maintain and grow our current level of activity and to look to the future to grow the membership and to increase level of activities.

Donations

As a registered charity The Gosport Shed welcomes donations from organisations and individuals. This funding enables us to provide facitlites and materials for the members’ projects and activiites.

Suggested community projects

The Gosport Shed has undertaken a number of community based projects for local community organisations. These organisations like The Mary Rose Trust, schools, nurseries, naval establishments, churches have all benefited from the Shedders’ skills, knowledge and expertise. These projects often undertaken in teams providing new friendships, meaningful activity whilst benefiting the local community.

Community based projects, once agreed, are normally undertaken on the basis that the cost of materials and a donation are provided by the organisation or by third party financing.

If you have a project that The Gosport Shed could possibly undertake which would benefit your community group or  organisation please contact us.

It is regretted that The Gosport Shed must decline requests for assistance from the general public. This is because shed members would not be insured when working outside of the shed environs, and any coverage for accidents both to shed members and any third party would be nullified.

Equipment and materials

To enable The Gosport Shed to provide facilities and undertake both individual and group community projects we need materials and equipment. Such support can be in the form raw materials for the workshops, computer parts, tools, musical instruments, art materials, etc.

All physical material donations must be agreed by The Gosport Shed before being brought to the Shed (please contact us to discuss)

The Gosport Shed is grateful for support from many sources, including Southern Co-operatives, Gosport Voluntary Action, Gosport Older Persons Forum, Gosport Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, Councillor Bob Forder, Caroline Dinenage MP, Fareham and Gosport CCG, BrendonCare, SSAFA, HMS Sultan, the Round Table, BBC Solent, ASDA, Gosport Road Racers, Waitrose, the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport Rotary Club, Co-op Funeral Care in Rowner Rd and the Portsmouth News. and recently the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
